Hopeless Hope

[a hopeless hope]

PAST FUTURE
INDICATE AN ACTIVITY WHICH CANNOT BE DONE OR CONDITION WHICH DID NOT COME TRUE IN THE PAST

USE OF PAST MODALS : WOULD, COULD, SHOULD, MIGHT,
USE VERB : HAVE

I WOULD HAVE VISITED BALI means I did not visit Bali
I MIGHT HAVE BEEN A DIRECTOR means I was not a director
JANE SHOULD HAVE FINISHED HER STUDY means She did not finish her study
MILLA COULD HAVE ATTENDED HER INAUGURATION PARTY means Milla did not attend the party
WOULD HAVE INDICATE UNATTENDED PLAN ( PLANNING TO DO, BUT WERE NOT DONE)
COULD HAVE INDICATE UNATTENDED ABILITY (ABLE TO DO, BUT WERE NOT DONE)
SHOULD HAVE INDICATE CONTRARY SUGGESTION (SUPPOSED TO DO, BUT WERE NOT DONE)
MIGHT HAVE INDICATE CONTRARY RESULT (ALLOWED TO DO, BUT WERE NOT DONE)

NEVER COMING DREAM
PAST FUTURE IN “CONDITIONAL CLAUSE” IF , “SUBJUNCTIVE” IF ONLY, WISH, AS IF/AS THOUGH
IF I HAD JOINED IN THE COMPANY, I WOULD HAVE BEEN A MANAGER.
IN FACT:
I WAS NOT A MANAGER BECAUSE I DID NOT JOIN THE COMPANY
SHE WISHED SHE COULD HAVE MET HER MATE FOR THE LAST TIME
IN FACT:
SHE DID NOT MEET HER MATE FOR THE LAST TIME
IF ONLY JAMES HAD NOT BROKEN UP, HE MIGHT HAVE BEEN A RICH MAN.
IN FACT:
JAMES BROKE UP, SO HE WAS NOT A RICH MAN

Whispering WISH < Expectation >

She wishes she could meet her mate for the last time.
[ present ] [ past ]
In fact : She does not meet her mate ….
[ present]
She wished she could have met her mate for the last time.
[ past ] [past future]
In fact : She did not meet her mate ….
[ past ]

An imagery action or imaginary existence usually happen when someone expectation cannot be fulfilled.

Sally expected to be a doctor when she was 17 years old. But she enrolled university majoring history. In this case, we can say :

Sally wished she were a doctor
Sally acts as if she were a doctor, but she……
If only she were a doctor, Sally could practice medical treatment. In fact ……..

MAKE A WISH [hopeful hope]

A wish for future may come true if we can “pave the way” to our hope. “Wish to be smart, study hard!”
[ idiom : blazing the way / breaking through / merintis ]
She wishes she can enter UNPAD for Accounting.

DREAM MAY COME TRUE …….WORK AND PRAY
I wish you the best…
May God bless you…!
